Time flies when you’re on the computer surfing the web, watching videos, playing games, or doing something else. The thing is that spending all day in front of the computer is not a good thing for your child. Rules must be put in place so you can limit how much time he or she gets to spend on the PC. The parental control software QualityTime helps you set up such rules. Once in place, your child will have no option but to obey them.

A setup wizard will help you install QualityTime on your PC in English or German. The aforementioned wizard shows up after you download a 374KB executable onto your PC and then launch it. The whole installation process will take little of your time and will require a minimum amount of effort. Once you’re done, you will be invited to restart your PC.

Access to QualityTime is password protected – the default password is “shutdown.” Enter this password and you’ll be able to access the application’s interface and its functionality. The interface presents a computer usage table at the top, a list of users underneath, and buttons for accessing the Settings, Help and Exit functions at the bottom.

As mentioned above, QualityTime’s purpose is to let you limit another user’s computer usage, something that comes in handy if you want to limit the amount of time your child spends using the PC. You can configure the warnings the user will see, you can set up a maximum of 10 users, you can set up usage limitations for each user, you can choose to disable the internet at logout.

Your child will be able to use the computer during the time and for the duration you specify. When the time is almost up, a notification will be presented by the application. Once the time is up, your child will be prevented from running any programs, from switching to another program, and from closing QualityTime using the Task Manager.

QualityTime is free to use for a 7-day trial period.

Set it up so your child cannot use the computer for more than 2 hours each day. This and more can be done with the parental control software QualityTime.

Pros

Support for English and German is provided. The interface is very easy to use. You can create up to 10 users. Set up computer usage limits for each user. You can customize the notifications.

Cons

Compatibility issues with Windows 7. The interface has a dated feel. Free to use for a short period.
